Deschanel's character, Summer, is based on a stock character type; "Yes, Summer is an immature view of a woman. She's Tom's view of a woman. He doesn't see her complexity and the consequence for him is heartbreak. In Tom's eyes, Summer is perfection, but perfection has no depth. Summer's not a girl, she's a phase." - WikipediaGordon-Levitt explained that he was drawn to the role of Tom because of his relatability to the character. "I've had my heart broken before. Truly, truly broken. But when I look back at me in my heartbroken phase, it's pretty hilarious, because it felt so much more extreme than it really was. One of the things I love about (500) Days of Summer is that it doesn't make light of what we go through in romances, but it is honest about it and shows it for what it is, which is often profoundly funny" - Wikipedia
Just finished watching 500 days of summer. Its a good movie i would like to say. There were messages for me all over the movie. Maybe it only has a significant meaning to me only, or maybe it would also speak to all of you too.
1. If a person that u really like says that they just want to be friend and not more than that. Just except it, do not try latch to the person like a parasite which normally somehow will make the person like you back. That is what i would like to think not real love. Its actually just comfort for the other person to accept you into their life.
2. Another part of the movie that spoke to me was when Tom was at the football field talking to his sister. She said "Maybe you think that she was the one, but i don't think she is. You maybe think she is the one because you only see the good things. Maybe you have to also remember the bad". and that is what i did.
3. Tom doesn't get it why Summer (a person that is never into a serious relationship) suddenly got married. Summer's answer was, "I just woke up one day and knew". I asked you, why u suddenly changed for him, why u are willing to do all of that for him. Why u didn't change and willing to do all of that when u were with me? i think the answer would be similar to Summer's answer.
4. At the end of the movie, Tom meets Autumn who shares the same favorite spot and shares the same dislike for the parking spot. Autumn has noticed Tom before this at their favorite spot but Tom has not noticed her before. Autumn said "You must not have been looking". Maybe me too.I GET IT NOW...
p:s: Don't you think that Autumn is much prettier than Summer?
